Back in '23, my great-grandfather Albert Halrith bought this old Victorian mansion on Heritage Boulevard. People thought he was crazy - the place needed work, tons of it actually. But he saw something nobody else did.
He spent two years restoring every inch, keeping all the original woodwork and stained glass. Opened the doors in 1925 as a boarding house for travelers heading to the island's northern reaches. Word spread fast about the warm hospitality and those incredible breakfasts Grandma Halrith used to make.
The mansion transforms into a beloved travelers' haven. Survived the Depression by offering affordable rates and honest comfort.
My grandfather James added the east wing, bringing in 25 more rooms. Started hosting weddings and local events - became part of Victoria's social fabric.
Dad took over and went upscale. Added the spa, upgraded every suite, brought in that wine cellar everyone talks about. We became a destination, not just a stop.
Now it's my turn to carry the torch. We've gone full luxury without losing that family touch. Every guest still matters, every stay still means something.
We've got 47 suites now, each one's different. Some folks love the turret rooms with those panoramic views, others prefer the garden suites. All have that heritage charm mixed with the tech and comfort you'd expect.
Chef Morrison runs the kitchen and honestly, he's a wizard. Local ingredients, creative twists on classics. The wine cellar's got over 800 selections - yeah, you could spend days down there.
Added this beauty in 2018. Full spa, indoor pool, sauna, treatment rooms. People come just for spa weekends and don't even leave the property. Can't blame 'em.
Three ballrooms, four meeting spaces, the garden terrace. We've hosted everything from intimate weddings to corporate retreats. Our events team makes it look easy (it's not, but they're pros).
Our concierge team knows every gallery, trail, and hidden spot around. They'll book whatever you need and usually throw in a recommendation or two you hadn't thought of.
Kayaking in summer, whale watching in spring, cozy fire pits in fall, winter garden walks. Victoria's gorgeous year-round and we help you experience all of it.
We're not just staff - we're a tight-knit crew who genuinely care about making your stay memorable. Some of these folks have been here longer than I have.
We've got rooms available and a team that's genuinely excited to meet you. Give us a call or swing by - we'll show you around.
